01 — Overview

Who we are

SpreadSplit is a macOS application for splitting double-page PDF spreads into individual portrait pages. It is developed and published as an independent app on the Mac App Store.

This Privacy Policy explains what information SpreadSplit accesses, why, and what it does with it. The short answer: SpreadSplit does not collect, transmit, or store any information about you or your files.

02 — Data Collection

What data we collect

We collect no data whatsoever. SpreadSplit has no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, no telemetry, no advertising framework, and no backend server. There is nothing to collect and nowhere to send it.
03 — File Access

How SpreadSplit accesses your files

SpreadSplit runs inside Apple's App Sandbox. This means it can only access files that you explicitly open through the standard macOS Open dialog or drag onto the app window. It cannot browse your file system, access Downloads, Documents, or any other folder without your direct action.

When you open a PDF, SpreadSplit reads it into memory, processes it entirely on your Mac, and writes the output to a location you choose via the Save dialog. The file never leaves your machine.

Entitlements in use:
com.apple.security.app-sandbox — sandbox enabled
com.apple.security.files.user-selected.read-write — read and write only files you choose

No other entitlements are requested. SpreadSplit does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, location, Photos library, or any other system resource.

04 — Permissions

05 — Third Parties

Third-party services and SDKs

SpreadSplit uses no third-party SDKs, frameworks, or services of any kind. It is built entirely on Apple's own frameworks:

None of these frameworks collect personal data on our behalf. They are part of macOS and subject to Apple's own privacy practices.

06 — Apple's Role

What Apple may collect

SpreadSplit is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple independently collects certain data related to App Store purchases and usage in accordance with Apple's Privacy Policy. This data is collected by Apple, not by SpreadSplit, and we have no access to it.

If you experience a crash, macOS may offer to send a crash report to Apple (not to us). This is governed by your macOS privacy settings under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

07 — Children

Children's privacy

SpreadSplit is rated 4+ on the Mac App Store. Because the app collects no data from anyone, it is safe for users of all ages. We do not knowingly collect any information from children or any other users.

08 — Your Rights

Your privacy rights

Because SpreadSplit collects no personal data, there is no data to access, correct, export, or delete. You have complete privacy by default — no action is required on your part.

If you have questions about how macOS or the Mac App Store handles data, please refer to Apple's Privacy Policy and your macOS privacy settings.

09 — Changes

Changes to this policy

If we ever change the privacy practices of SpreadSplit — for example by adding a feature that requires network access — we will update this policy before releasing that version and clearly communicate the change in the App Store release notes.

The current policy version and effective date are always shown at the top of this page.
